Dumpster Rental 101: Getting Started

If You've Never Rented A Dumpster Before, You Probably Have Some Questions.

Use this page as a guide to help make your dumpster rental a smooth and worry-free process. We look forward to helping you get your project done!

Who Rents Dumpsters and What Types of Jobs Are They Used For?

Dumpster rentals are common in the construction industries for roofing, demolition and renovation jobs, but they are also very popular among home owners looking to tackle home clean ups, DIY jobs and more! Homeowners find dumpsters to be very helpful because they empower them to get inspired, creative and handy by doing home renovations themselves. Users like being able to just open the garage or basement door, empty their excess and have it gone in a few days rather than having to slowly put bulk items out at the curb week by week or month by month. If you're thinking of getting a dumpster, but you're unsure how to get started, you've come to the right place!

Where to Start

Planning a cleaning project can seem overwhelming when you haven't started, but the trick is to make a plan. If you've landed on our page, you've probably already considered the fact that you have a lot of excess "stuff" that you need to get rid of; maybe a garage or basement that's been due for a clean out, or maybe you've decided to renovate your kitchen or bathroom. Exciting! You've already started the process!

What Size Dumpster Do I Need? What Sizes Are Available?

You've probably already thought about the time and effort it's going to take to pack up and put all your stuff out to the curb, little by little, to meet the restrictions of your local trash collection services. Maybe that's why it's been building up for so long? With a dumpster, you can get rid of a lot at once. See our Acceptable Waste Guide and then consider how much stuff you need to get rid of and then visit our sizing guide to choose what size dumpster you need. We refer to dumpsters by the cubic yard, ex. 15, 20 or 30 yards.

When Should I Order My Dumpster and How Long Can I Have It For?

Once you have an idea of how much stuff you have to get rid of and how large of a dumpster you think you'll need, consider when you would like to work on your clean up project. Think of how long it will take you to remove what you've got to get rid of. Our dumpsters are available to rent for a period of 10 days (fees will be billed for additional time required) so planning a time that you can devote to loading your dumpster is key. Once you know when you'd like to work on your clean out, reserve your dumpster, giving a least 3 days notice to allow for schedulingThe earlier notice you can provide, the better we will be able to accommodate your rental.

How Much Does It Cost to Rent A Dumpster?

Once you have an idea of what size dumpster you need and when you'd like to work on your clean out project, you're probably wondering what you should budget for a dumpster. Our pricing depends on a few things; 1. Where the dumpster will be delivered to. 2. What type of waste will be disposed of. 3. How much waste (in tons) will be disposed of. These prices vary due to dump fees and tax rates, so we will provide an accurate quote for your specific needs when you reach out. If you are wondering how you can pay for your dumpster from United Environmental Waste Services, we require that a valid credit card be held on file for the full duration of a reservation. The initial delivery rate will be charged to the credit card on file prior to delivery.

What Else Should I Know About Renting A Dumpster?

Again, renting a dumpster is a relatively easy process and we are upfront about the costs associated, but there are a few other things to consider.

  • Permits for Dumpsters
Permits are the sole responsibility of the customer and requirements are based on your local regulations. We recommend that you contact your local municipality's office to determine what it's requirements are for permits prior to reserving a dumpster.

  • Additional Fees
Our dumpsters rates typically include a tonnage allowance as well as the 10 day rental period. If either of these limits are exceeded, we will charge the credit card on file the appropriate amount. If a dumpster is unable to be delivered due to a blockage onsite, a customer cancels their dumpster within 24 hours of the scheduled delivery, our driver is unable to retrieve a dumpster from a customer's location or unacceptable waste is dumped in a container, a convenience fee may be charged. We do our best to communicate to avoid these fees if possible, and we ask for you to do the same.

  • Loading Your Dumpster
Please be mindful when loading your dumpster that it will be lifted from your property and driven to a dump facility and so it is important that your dumpster does not exceed the top of the dumpster and that no large, loose objects (like a mattress or other furniture) are disposed of on top, please load these first so they are at the bottom of the dumpster.
